The mild winter of 2023 encouraged tens of thousands to gather and participate in the National March for Life in Washington, D.C. this January.  They had gathered peacefully in January for the 50th time to voice their opposition to the Supreme Court's past decision that the right to abortion legally exists in the U.S. Constitution.  But this year, another reason to celebrate was because this decision has been corrected.

The corrected decision was made in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization in which the Court recognized that the State of Mississippi had the right to ban abortions after 15 weeks.  Along with this case, the Supreme Court also voted 5-4 to overturn its earlier decision in the Roe v. Wade case.

The Right To Life movement found these decisions greatly supported their beliefs, and caused Jeanne Mancini, head of March for Life Action, to say, "Limiting abortions after 15 weeks is the least we can do to protect women, as well as babies who at this state are already fully formed and can feel pain in their mother's womb.  We have joyously seen the Supreme Court return the power back to the American people to protect the unborn through their elected representatives.  After staining the moral fabric of our country for nearly 50 years, Roe v. Wade is no more."

At the prayer vigil service the evening before the March, The Most Rev. Michael Burbidge, Bishop of the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia which boarders Washington, D.C., said, "God's love must fill the emptiness created by abortion.  With our own hearts over-flowing with this love for God and for one another, we must ask God for guidance to transform minds and hearts."
